CAN THE BADGERS PULL-OFF MUCH NEEDED VICTORY?

The ambition of the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers to win a trophy this season is still alive after the Eastern Cape Iianyathi pulled-off a surprise 9 wicket victory against the ITEC Knights in East London the past weekend.
This result kept the door open for the Badgers to reach the final but then they will need an outright victory when they travel to Bloemfontein where they will take on the Knights in their own backyard. The Badgers still have a mathematical change to reach the final but need to win their last two matches and will be dependent on favourable results involving other contenders. They will enter this fixture on the 5th position on the log after they recorded a win, a draw and two defeats in their four of six fixtures.
The log position is:
- Limpopo Impalas – 87.42 points after 5 matches
- ITEC Knights – 76.38 points after 5 matches
- Northern Cape Heat – 69.08 points after 4 matches
- Eastern Storm – 63.16 points after 4 matches
- Garden Route Badgers – 52.78 points after 4 matches
The batting unit of the Badgers had a fine season with Jean du Plessis, Blayde Capell and Jhedli van Briesies all scored more than one century the past season. The bowlers did not produce the goods and good news is that the top wicket taker in the league, Thomas Kaber, who was part of the MI Cape Town franchise in the SA20 league will be available for the match after MI Cape Town failed to qualify for the SA T20 play-offs.
Coach Gurshwin Rabie has drafted the 21-year old Breyton Plaatjies into the squad following sound batting performances for the Garden Route Badgers Colts and consistent performance in the premier league for Union Stars.
