Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers

The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers are back in contention for a place in the Cricket South Africa Division 2 Twenty/20 knock-out competition. Yaseen Valli and his wounded team, bounced back with one of their most impressive performances in a while after they defeated the unbeaten ACDC Tuskers by 6 wickets at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Wednesday (2 October).

On Saturday at Buffalo Park in East London, the Badgers produced a clinical performance with an 8 wicket bonus point victory against the Eastern Cape Iianyathi.

INTERNATIONAL 50-OVER DEBUT FOR OTTNEIL BAARTMAN

Ottniel Baartman (Proteas)

After missing out on his 50 over (List A) debut for the Proteas in December last year, the 31-year-old Oudtshoorn born and raised Ottneil Baartman, played his maiden 50 over test for the Proteas on Wednesday, October 2nd.

He missed out in December last year after suffering from a sight strain injury against India in Gqeberha. After representing his country in 10 Twenty20 matches he was included in the Proteas team for the series of three limited over test matches against Ireland in Abu Dhabi in the UAE. Baartman bagged four wickets in the series which South Africa won 2-1.

The pool stages of the Six Gun Grill SWD Twenty20 knock-out competition was concluded the past weekend and the eight teams who advanced to the quarter final stages this weekend was determined.

The eight teams are the defending champions, Pacaltsdorp United together with Union Stars I, Union Stars II, SWD u/19’s, Plett Pioneers, Knysna Cavaliers, Mossel Bay and Harlequins Forces.

SWD CRICKET HOSTED SUCCESSFUL KFC MINI CRICKET SEMINAR

South Western Districts Cricket, on Saturday in Oudtshoorn, hosted a very successful KFC provincial mini-cricket seminar.

The seminar was attended by 85 delegates – including the Manager of Mass Participation at Cricket South Africa – Ms Buhle Vaphi.

Representatives and coaches from all regional structures – including Central Karoo, Plett/Bitou, Knysna, George, Mossel Bay, Hessequa, Kannaland, Dysselsdorp and Oudtshoorn were present. The guest speaker at the seminar was SWDC Board Member, Adv Michelle Weyers, who addressed the theme of the seminar – Building the Future.

Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers

The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers had an uphill battle for their first two fixtures in the Cricket South Africa Division 2 Twenty/20 challenge. After their first match against the Mpumalanga Rhino’s – scheduled to be played at White River on 21 September, was abandoned due to rain they suffered back-to-back defeats in their next two matches.

In the match against Easterns at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on 24 September the Badgers had a sound start and posted an opening partnership of 70 between the captain Yaseen Vallie (58 from 43 balls; 2x6, 5x4)) and Keenan Vieira (50 from 38 balls; 1x6, 7x4) but the visitors lost momentum in their middle order and ended on 164/4 despite a blistering 39 (24 balls; 2x6, 4x4) by Heath Richards.
