The third round of the Six Gun Grill SWD Premier league was contested on Saturday and all eyes will be on the two unbeaten log leaders the upcoming weekend.

The defending champions, Pacaltsdorp United and newly promoted Sussex, are still unbeaten and they will log horns the upcoming Saturday.

Mossel Bay, Heidelberg United and New Dawn Park were on the winnings side of the Six Gun Grill SWD Promotion league that was contested on Saturday.

In the Women’s Division 1 competition Pacaltsdorp United won by 9 wickets against Harlequins Forces.

BIG WEEKEND FOR GARDEN ROUTE BADGERS

The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers will take on the formidable Tuskers in the Cricket South Africa Division 1 Four day competition this weekend. Both teams were victorious in their opening match of the competition but the Tuskers are the log leaders following a victory by an innings and 19 runs against the Eastern Storm in Benoni the past weekend. The Badgers will have home ground advantage at the Recreation Ground.

The Garden Route Badgers Colts had a frustrating weekend in the Cricket South Africa Colts competition. After the three-day match was abandoned and ended in a draw the home team lost the limited over match against the Eastern Province Colts by 7 wickets.

The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Women’s team have a tough assignment when they travel to KwaZulu Natal this weekend. The Badgers will take on the log leaders, the Dolphins in the Cricket South Africa Hollywoodbets in the Pro50 Series (on Saturday, 16 November 2024) and a Pro20 Series match will be played on Sunday, 17 November 2024

YOLANDI VAN DER WESTHUIZEN JOINS BADGERS WOMEN

A former Protea Women national player, Yolandi van der Westhuizen, has joined the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers coaching staff.

Van der Westhuizen, who represented the Protea women’s team as a wicket keeper between 2009 and 2014 has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Garden Route Badgers women’s team. She played provincial cricket for Western Province and Boland between 2001 and 2019. Martelize van der Merwe is the head coach of the team.

BRIDGTON HUB CLAIMS CSA SCHOOLS T20 TITLE

The Bridgton Hub on Tuesday afternoon, has won the SWD edition of the Cricket South Africa Schools T20 title. The Bridgton Hub defeated the D’Almeida Hub from Mossel Bay by 60 runs in the final that was played at the Recreation Ground.

Bridgton, who batted first posted a competitive 156/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Wilrino Meyer (21) and Keano Coerecius (58 from 44 balls; 1x6, 5x4) added 59 runs for the second wicket whilst the partnership for the third wicket was 86 runs between Coerecius and Josh Karelse (51 from 39 balls; 1x6, 5x4).

PREMIER LEAGUE ACTION

The second round of matches in the Six Gun Grill SWD Premier league was contested on Saturday. The defending champions, Pacaltsdorp United, and newly promoted Sussex is the only unbeaten sides in the league and both their respective victories were achieved by a bonus point win.

Pacaltsdorp United (153/3), thanks to valuable batting contributions by Bradley Carlous (51*) and Warren Bell (46*) were victorious with a 7-wicket victory against Union Stars II (152 all out). Union Stars I (232 all out) thanks to the first century of the competition by Grant Esau (105*) and a five-wicket haul by Reagon Rhode (5/13) won by 124 runs against Plett Pioneers (108 all out) in a match that was played at New Horizons.

BADGERS ROAR IN EAST LONDON

The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers got their campaign in the Cricket South Africa Division 2 Four-day series of to a perfect start. Yaseen Valli and his troops produced a clinical performance with a comprehensive 148 runs victory against the Eastern Cape Iianaythi at Buffalo Park in East London.

After being put in to bat, the Badgers reached a solid 308 before they were bowled out just before stumps on the first day. Newly recruited wicket keeper/batsman, Luke Beaufort, was the hero with his maiden first class ton – an aggressive 112 from only 115 balls (1x6; 20x4). His partnership with Kelly Smuts 58 from 96 balls; 1x6, 8x4) of 120 runs for the 4th wicket was crucial in building the innings. The dangerous spin bowler, Jade de Klerk, bagged 5/84.
