The 2011 Intake of the SWD Cricket Academy, based in Oudtshoorn, will stretch over the period May-September 2011.
All stakeholders are hereby invited to nominate players to be considered for this intake.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced that global brand KFC is its new sponsor for mini cricket which is the entry point to the game.
CSA CEO Gerald Majola said: "It is a major boost for the further growth of cricket in South Africa to have a famous international brand such as KFC on board at a critical level of the game.
"CSA has doubled cricket's capacity over the past 10 years and we are looking to accelerate this growth even further over the next decade.
"KFC has committed for five years, with an option for a further five years which is an exceptional investment in CSA through mini cricket.
"This means that we can plan and expand over the next 10 years at the entry level of the sport for players, coaches and administrators.

The players form the SWD Emerging Amateur squad with Head Coach Garry Hampson (left), Andrew Moolman, Kevin Damons, Martin Coetzee, Warren Ekstraal, Sywill Williams, Erinn Ewerts, Christo van Schalkwyk, Jason LaKay, Lyndon Volkwyn and Rian Botha. The SWD Cricket Board recently identified a squad of Emerging players as part of the Chevrolet High Performance Cricket program in the province. The squad will be monitored by the SWD head coach, Garry Hampson, and besides training is specific cricket related skills the players will also be exposed to regular fitness tests and performance at club level will be closely followed.
According to Hampson the players from this squad will be next in line to be picked for the provincial team and they will be on a regular basis be invited to SWD squad practises. "The door is open for players that show potential to play for the province an I am very excited about some to the young players in the squad", he said. The Emerging team will play against similar teams from Eastern Province and Border in September and that will allow players to stamp their authority.

SWD upset Northerns

South Western Districts (SWD) pulled off a surprise eight-wicket victory over Northerns in the Cricket South Africa First-Class Three-day Competition in Oudsthoorn at the weekend. The win was their first of the season and showed promising signs for the Northern Cape Associate going forward.
“We are working on a three year plan and are looking to work on the core players. We have certain objectives that we have set out this season and I believe we are well on our way to achieving those. We have sent a clear message that we can produce quality players that can challenge the stronger unions,” said SWD CEO, Albertus Kennedy.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced today, Wednesday that Jacques Kallis was standing by his decision to relinquish the vice-captaincy of the national side but at the same time remained totally committed to South African cricket.
“When Jacques accepted the vice-captaincy two years ago at the start of Mickey Arthur’s term as national coach,” said CSA CEO Gerald Majola in a statement, “it was always on the basis that he would see how he enjoyed the extra responsibility of the position and that he would review it after a suitable period.
“Jacques has now decided that he wants to concentrate on his own game. Our discussions were entirely cordial and constructive and it is only right that we accept his decision.
